Dasara Tourist Wave Fills Central Mysuru Hotels Through Oct. 2

Aahara food fairs initially rerouted evening diners from restaurants before the late-week influx restored business.

Overview

  • Most hotels within 3 km of the palace report 100% occupancy from Sept. 27 to Oct. 2, with other areas at roughly 80–90%, according to the Mysuru Hotel Owners Association.
  • Tourist arrivals were normal through Sept. 26, and city restaurants saw about a 50% drop in evening business as crowds chose festival food stalls.
  • The Maharaja’s Grounds hosts 160 stalls—130 non-vegetarian and 30 vegetarian—with roughly four-fifths of stalls at major venues serving non-vegetarian fare.
  • From Sept. 27, eateries recorded heavy footfall as bookings surged via online platforms, travel agents and walk-ins.
  • Mysuru offers 180–200 hotels and nearly 8,000 rooms, and the surge coincided with World Tourism Day on Sept. 27.
