Overview

  • Activated from the injured list July 7 after missing the first 89 games with right elbow inflammation, Darvish made his 2025 debut at Petco Park.
  • He threw 63 of a maximum 75 pitches over 3⅔ innings, striking out five and yielding two runs on three hits and three walks.
  • The cautious comeback follows a rehab plan of simulated games, controlled bullpens and an open date built into the schedule around the All-Star break.
  • Darvish’s presence strengthens a rotation fronted by Dylan Cease and Nick Pivetta, which has been depleted by the season-long absences of Joe Musgrove and Michael King.
  • Over 100 starts with San Diego, Darvish carries a 3.79 ERA and could make two more starts before the All-Star break to build up innings.
