Dartford Crossing Toll to Rise by 40% From September

Unveiled alongside fresh government backing for the Lower Thames Crossing, the toll increase aims to ease chronic congestion on the M25

Overview

  • The one-off charge for cars, motorhomes and small minibuses will increase by £1 from £2.50 to £3.50 on September 1, 2025.
  • Charges for buses, coaches and two-axle vans will climb to £4.20, while vehicles with more than two axles will pay £8.40 under the new rate schedule.
  • Local residents’ annual permits will rise from £20 to £25 to maintain unlimited Dartford Crossing access.
  • Motorcycles, mopeds and quad bikes will continue to cross free of charge and journeys between 10pm and 6am remain untolled.
  • The government says the higher fees will manage daily traffic that exceeds 150,000 vehicles and follow a £590 million funding boost for the Lower Thames Crossing project.
