Overview

  • DART completed repairs and restored downtown rail service on August 5, nearly a week after the July 30 fire in the Ross Avenue tunnel.
  • Shuttle buses replaced trains between Downtown Dallas and SMU/Mockingbird Station during the tunnel closure and added about 30 minutes to passengers’ commutes.
  • The fire erupted when a train’s pantograph apparatus malfunctioned, producing electrical sparks and thick smoke as it exited the tunnel.
  • Dallas Fire-Rescue reported six passengers were hospitalized for anxiety, breathing difficulties and minor burns.
  • The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the technical cause of the electrical failure.
