Overview
- Darkness Falls beat previously unbeaten Desert Castle by a neck in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes on Saturday, October 10, to claim the Group 1 prize.
- Ryan Moore rode Darkness Falls after the colt dropped back from a mile, and connections say the performance underlined both his speed and stamina.
- Desert Castle carried Godolphin’s hopes and finished a close second, leaving him strongly positioned for the 2,000 Guineas betting lists despite the defeat.
- The rest of Newmarket’s card produced notable results including Rock Montreal winning the Emirates Autumn Stakes and Humidity taking the Modern Games Darley Stakes.
- The result deepens the Godolphin–Coolmore (Ballydoyle) rivalry and will influence yearling values, trainer plans and early 2027 Guineas/Derby entries.
