Darja Varfolomeev, Oliver Zeidler, and 3x3 Basketballers Named Germany's Top Athletes of 2024

Olympic champions celebrated at Baden-Baden gala as sport journalists honor their historic achievements.

Darja Varfolomeev, the 18-year-old rhythmic gymnast, was named Sportlerin des Jahres after becoming the first German to win Olympic gold in her discipline.
Rower Oliver Zeidler secured the Sportler des Jahres title following his gold medal win in Paris, narrowly edging out swimmer Lukas Märtens by 47 points.
The 3x3 women's basketball team, consisting of Sonja Greinacher, Svenja Brunckhorst, Elisa Mevius, and Marie Reichert, won Mannschaft des Jahres after their dramatic Olympic gold victory over Spain.
Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Yemisi Ogunleye placed second and third, respectively, in the women's category, while Patrick Lange and Lukas Märtens rounded out the top three for the men.
The awards were decided by 3,000 sports journalists and presented during the 78th annual gala attended by 700 guests at the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden.
