Dar Lands in Brussels for EU Dialogue After SCO Push on Connectivity and New Financing

Pakistan seeks to pair its Eurasian connectivity agenda with expanded cooperation in Europe.

  • In Brussels, Ishaq Dar met European Council President Antonio Costa, and both sides agreed to deepen cooperation across key sectors and reaffirmed support for multilateralism.
  • He will co-chair the 7th PakistanEU Strategic Dialogue at the invitation of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and will also attend the 4th EU Indo‑Pacific Ministerial Forum.
  • In Moscow, Dar urged SCO members to settle trade in national currencies and proposed creating an SCO Development Bank, a Development Fund and an Investment Fund.
  • On the SCO sidelines, he met Sergey Lavrov, Alexei Overchuk, Mikhail Mishustin and Li Qiang, with statements from all sides pointing to expanded cooperation across political, trade, energy and connectivity areas.
  • Russian officials praised Pakistan’s potential as a regional transit hub and noted its new ties with Armenia, as the SCO Council of Heads of Government adopted a joint communiqué on future economic cooperation.
