Daniel Wiffen Shatters 15-Year-Old 800m Freestyle World Record

The Irish swimmer's record-breaking performance at the European Short Course Championships eclipses previous record held by Australia's Grant Hackett.

Daniel Wiffen, the Irish swimmer, broke the 800m freestyle short course world record at the European Short Course Championships in Romania.
He finished in 7 minutes 20.46 seconds, beating the previous record held by Australian Grant Hackett by almost three seconds.
The previous record by Hackett had stood for 15 years.
Wiffen also won gold medals in the 400m and 1500m freestyle events at the championships.
France's David Aubry and Ukraine's Mykhailo Romanchuk took the silver and bronze respectively in the 800m freestyle event.
