Daniel Radcliffe Sends Supportive Letter to New ‘Harry Potter’ Lead

Radcliffe pledges not to overshadow the new child cast in HBO’s planned 2027 reboot.

Overview

  • Radcliffe told Good Morning America he wrote to Dominic McLaughlin wishing him a wonderful time and hoping his experience surpasses his own.
  • McLaughlin, who has been cast as Harry Potter, replied with a very nice message, according to Radcliffe.
  • HBO’s untitled series began filming in July 2025 and is slated to premiere in 2027 with each season adapting one of J.K. Rowling’s seven novels, with Rowling as an executive producer.
  • The young leads are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron, joined by John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid, with Warwick Davis returning as Flitwick.
  • Reflecting on starting at age eleven himself, Radcliffe said photos of the new cast moved him and reinforced his wish to give the children space.
