D’Angelo Hunt Indicted on 10 Federal Counts in Spirit Lake Cases

Prosecutors say the investigation continues with a priority on recovering Jemini Posey.

Overview

  • The indictment charges the 26-year-old St. Michael, N.D., man with second-degree murder in Indian country, voluntary manslaughter, six assault and strangulation counts, tampering with evidence, and use of fire to commit a felony.
  • Hunt was previously charged by criminal complaint on Nov. 17 in the death of his brother, Isaac Hunt, whose remains were found in November on the Spirit Lake Reservation after he went missing in March 2024.
  • Several counts relate to alleged assaults against Hunt’s girlfriend, Jemini Posey, who has been missing since Jan. 7, 2024.
  • Prosecutors say Hunt remains in custody after waiving a detention hearing and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
  • Authorities say the case is being pursued with tribal, state, and federal partners as investigators continue efforts to locate Posey and seek accountability.
