DANA 'Qori' Brings Andes Snow and Lima Drizzle as Senamhi Declares Red Alert for Nighttime Cold

Forecasters expect conditions to ease in stages, with the chill peaking from Dec. 6 to 8.

  • Mixed precipitation and strong gusts are affecting the central and southern highlands, with key impacts in Junín, Pasco, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurímac, Cusco and Puno.
  • Snowfall was confirmed on the ArequipaPuno road and isolated morning drizzles were reported in Arequipa city districts, leading authorities to urge caution on high-altitude routes.
  • In Lima and the coast, persistent drizzle, near-100% humidity and cooler mornings are expected to continue through Dec. 8, most notably in southern and coastal districts.
  • Senamhi’s red notice (Aviso No. 434) warns of a marked nocturnal temperature drop from Dec. 6–8, with lows near −10 °C above 4,000 m and gusts close to 45 km/h in parts of the sierra.
  • Coastal nights from Piura to Ica are forecast to be colder through Dec. 10, and specialists say the system could linger beyond Dec. 5 with gradually decreasing intensity.
