Dan Houser Says Bully 2 Was Shelved Over Bandwidth, Confirms He Didn’t Write GTA 6

He said limited leadership capacity forced Rockstar to prioritize larger projects, leaving Bully 2 behind.

Overview

  • Speaking with IGN at LA Comic Con, Houser said a small lead creative and senior leadership team meant Rockstar could not pursue every project, including a Bully sequel.
  • Houser explained that his studio Absurd Ventures is structured to run two projects with a relatively small team to keep both moving without the same bottlenecks.
  • Former Rockstar New England developers have said Bully 2 was prototyped around 2008–2009 before being canceled, with staff reassigned to other Rockstar games.
  • Some prototype ideas and tech from the scrapped Bully 2 reportedly informed later titles, including NPC memory systems seen in Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • Houser confirmed he had no role in GTA 6’s story and called Red Dead Redemption 2 his best work, while GTA 6 is currently expected to release on May 26, 2026.
