Dam Drained in Search for Missing SA Boy Gus With No Trace Found

The result narrows the search to wider aerial and land checks beyond the homestead.

Overview

  • Police on Friday drained a large dam about 600m from the Oak Park Station homestead, pumping roughly 3.2 million litres at about 15,000 litres per minute and clearing weed beds, but found nothing of significance.
  • The dam, about 4.5m deep and previously checked by divers, was emptied to enable a comprehensive visual sweep and to rule out drowning in the main waterbody.
  • Investigators have finished reviewing earlier drone imagery without identifying any object of significance, and staged aerial imaging out to 10km is continuing over several weeks.
  • Task Force Horizon says there is no evidence of foul play, and Gus’s family continues to cooperate with police and receive support from a victim contact officer.
  • Gus, 4, disappeared from the remote property on September 27, following an initial search estimated at 470 sq km and a later on-foot sweep of about 95 sq km that involved police, ADF and SES teams.
