Overview

• Cecilia Simpson, 41, was shot multiple times around 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Wheatland Towne Crossing parking lot and was later pronounced dead at Methodist Central Hospital.
• Investigators say the confrontation began at a Five Below after Simpson held a door and the other woman did not say “thank you,” continued inside a nearby PetSmart, and escalated into a fight outside.
• An arrest affidavit states Keona Zachyua Hampton fired three shots with a black-and-silver handgun after a physical altercation during which a witness reported Simpson struck her.
• Surveillance footage and cellphone video helped identify a black Ford Five Hundred; officers later spotted Hampton at an apartment complex and arrested her during a 7:45 p.m. traffic stop.
• Hampton was booked into the Dallas County Jail on a murder charge with no bond set, and Dallas police say the investigation remains active as they seek tips for Detective T. Gross.
