Dallas Museum of Art Taps Brian Ferriso as Director, Starting Dec. 1

He leaves Portland after inaugurating a $111 million museum expansion on November 20.

Overview

  • Ferriso is expected to guide a roughly $150 million overhaul of the DMA’s 1984 Edward Larrabee Barnes building, led by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos and now entering schematic design.
  • During his tenure at the Portland Art Museum since 2006, he increased the endowment by $40 million, eliminated $7 million in unfunded debt, and more than doubled the curatorial staff.
  • He led a campaign surpassing $140 million for Portland’s project, which delivers 95,000 square feet of new or renovated public and exhibition space.
  • He succeeds Agustín Arteaga, who departed last year and now leads the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento.
  • He will also steward a long‑pledged bequest from prominent Dallas collectors with evolving holdings, as the DMA addresses capacity pressures that included prior staff reductions and reduced hours.
