Dallas Cowboys Trade for Kenneth Murray and Kaiir Elam to Bolster Defense

The Cowboys acquire two former first-round picks while losing veteran DeMarcus Lawrence to the Seahawks in free agency.

  • The Dallas Cowboys traded with the Tennessee Titans to acquire linebacker Kenneth Murray, along with a 2025 seventh-round pick, in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
  • In a separate deal with the Buffalo Bills, the Cowboys secured cornerback Kaiir Elam and a 2025 sixth-round pick, giving up a 2025 fifth-rounder and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
  • Kenneth Murray, originally drafted by the Chargers, had 95 tackles and 3.5 sacks last season with the Titans and is expected to strengthen the Cowboys' linebacker corps.
  • Kaiir Elam, a 2022 first-round pick, struggled to secure a starting role in Buffalo but joins a Cowboys secondary facing injuries and depth concerns, including uncertainty around Trevon Diggs' return.
  • The Cowboys also lost four-time Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence to the Seattle Seahawks after choosing not to extend his contract.
