Daily Beast CEO Heather Dietrick to Depart, Join Outdoor Lifestyle Publisher Outside Inc. as Chief Media Officer

Dietrick to Head Operations and Staff of Outside’s 13 Editorial Brands from 2024 After Transformative Six-Year Tenure with Daily Beast.

  • Heather Dietrick, who has been the CEO of The Daily Beast for six years, is set to leave the company at the end of 2023 to join outdoor lifestyle publisher, Outside Inc., as Chief Media Officer.
  • At Outside Inc., Dietrick will oversee operations and 150-plus staff of Outside's 13 editorial brands, including Outside Magazine, Backpacker, Ski, Climbing, Yoga Journal, Velo, Pinkbike, and Triathlete.
  • During Dietrick's tenure at The Daily Beast, the site launched its first subscription tier, expanded into ecommerce with Scouted and introduced the pop-culture vertical, Obsessed.
  • Prior to The Daily Beast, Dietrick served as president of Gizmodo Media Group and general counsel of Gawker Media, and her background includes positions at Univision Communications, G/O Media, and roles in law firms and courts.
  • Despite rumours earlier in the year about a possible merger or sale of The Daily Beast, the plans were reportedly abandoned and IAC is currently looking for Dietrick's replacement.
