Dacia Unveils Hipster Concept, a 3-Meter EV Pitched as a New People’s Car

Mass production hinges on EU regulators creating a new small-car category to allow the concept’s lighter, simpler specification.

Overview

  • Revealed in Meudon, the four-seat Hipster Concept measures about 3.0 meters and targets sub-800 kg, with a boot that flexes from 70 to 500 liters.
  • Dacia says the car is 20% lighter than the Spring and aims to halve lifecycle carbon footprint by cutting materials, weight and energy use.
  • Cost-saving design choices include strap door pulls, sliding windows, taillights behind the rear glass, minimal built-in screens, a smartphone dock and YouClip accessory mounts, with body cladding in recycled Starkle material.
  • Provisional targets reported for the concept include roughly 150 km of range and a top speed around 90 km/h, with Dacia emphasizing short daily trips and two charges per week.
  • Executives say a production version could be priced below €15,000 (£13,000) if rules permit; meanwhile Dacia announced upgraded Spring motors (70 hp and 100 hp) and hybrid additions for Sandero, Stepway and Jogger.
