DAC Approves ₹67,000 Crore in Defence Procurement for Multi-Domain Modernisation

The council’s greenlight signals New Delhi’s push for self-reliant capability upgrades, networked integration, asset sustainment.

Overview

  • On August 5, the Defence Acquisition Council chaired by Rajnath Singh granted Acceptance of Necessity for proposals totaling nearly ₹67,000 crore across land, naval, air and unmanned systems.
  • The Army secured approval to procure thermal imager-based driver night sights for BMP infantry vehicles to boost night-time mobility of mechanised units.
  • The Navy won AoN for Compact Autonomous Surface Craft for anti-submarine warfare, BrahMos fire control systems and launchers, and an upgrade of the BARAK-1 point defence missile system.
  • The Air Force will deploy mountain radars to strengthen surveillance along mountainous borders and will upgrade the SAKSHAM/SPYDER weapon system for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System.
  • Tri-service approval was granted for Medium Altitude Long Endurance drones and sustainment contracts were signed for C-17, C-130J fleets and the S-400 long-range air defence missile system.
