DA Charges Dublin Man in UC Berkeley Sorority Break-In After Video IDs Suspect

A search of his Dublin residence yielded assault-rifle parts, high-capacity magazines, over 900 rounds, prompting felon-in-possession charges.

Overview

  • Alameda County prosecutors charged Courtney Alford, 45, with burglary, prowling/peeking, invading privacy, multiple unlawful-entry counts, and felon-in-possession offenses.
  • Berkeley police say the Nov. 1 intrusion at an all-female house on the 2300 block of Warring Street involved theft of food and underwear and the suspect watching women shower.
  • Security footage showed the intruder moving in and out between about 3 a.m. and 6:35 a.m., at times returning in different clothing and a ski mask, according to police.
  • Detectives used security video plus automated license plate images to identify Alford, obtained a warrant Nov. 4, and arrested him Nov. 5 in Castro Valley without incident.
  • Investigators report seizing assault-rifle components, high-capacity magazines, and more than 900 rounds at Alford’s Dublin home, and say he is a convicted felon being held by Berkeley police.
