D66 and PVV Deadlocked at 26 Seats as Final Dutch Votes Await Count

Outstanding municipal plus overseas ballots will decide who gets the first opportunity to lead coalition talks.

Overview

  • ANP’s near-complete projection shows D66 and the PVV level at 26 seats each with only a few thousand votes separating them.
  • Key tallies are still pending, including the last 20% from Amsterdam due Friday, a delayed Venray count after a town hall fire, BES-islands returns, and roughly 90,000 overseas postal votes.
  • D66 posted a strong surge from 2023 and the CDA rebounded to about 18 seats, while updated projections place the VVD near 22 seats.
  • Exit polls indicate Nieuw Sociaal Contract could lose all representation, and GroenLinks-PvdA leader Frans Timmermans announced he will step down after disappointing results.
  • Regional splits persisted as the PVV led in many municipalities such as Nederweert and Boekel, while Amsterdam’s provisional total put GroenLinks-PvdA ahead of D66, with national turnout reported around 78.4%.
