Overview

  • Variable speed signs have been installed on a 50-kilometer stretch of the D3 between Tábor and České Budějovice.
  • The system will display 150 km/h in light traffic and good weather and automatically revert to 130 km/h when conditions worsen.
  • ŘSD invested about €2.2 million in the pilot infrastructure, including roughly 42 electronic sign units.
  • A 2023 legal change enabled higher limits on technically suitable motorways, and tougher speeding fines introduced in 2024 underpin enforcement.
  • Results will guide possible expansion to other stretches such as the D1 between Přerov and Ostrava and the D11 near Hradec Králové, with safety and public acceptance under review.
