Overview
- Annita Demetriou, president of Cyprus’s House of Representatives, led a delegation that called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Constitution Day.
- Murmu said India–Cyprus economic ties hold immense potential for expansion and noted deepening political, defence, and cultural cooperation, as well as close work in the UN, EU, and Commonwealth.
- External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met the delegation and expressed confidence that Cyprus’s EU Presidency will strengthen India–EU ties, highlighting shared democratic values and opposition to terrorism.
- Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan underscored the importance of sustained parliamentary exchanges to further deepen the long-standing bilateral relationship.
- The visit followed an October review of the India–Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025–2029, a roadmap for cooperation in defence, trade, business, innovation, and technology.
