Cybercriminals Charged in $635K StubHub Ticket Theft Scheme
Two suspects allegedly exploited a StubHub contractor's access to steal and resell nearly 1,000 high-demand event tickets, including Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.
- The scheme involved stealing 993 event tickets, primarily for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, Adele, Ed Sheeran, NBA games, and the U.S. Open Tennis Championships.
- Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced charges against Shamara P. Simmons, 31, of Queens, NY, and Tyrone Rose, 20, of Kingston, Jamaica, for grand larceny, computer tampering, and conspiracy.
- Rose, employed by a StubHub contractor in Jamaica, allegedly accessed and redirected ticket URLs to Simmons and a now-deceased accomplice in Queens.
- The stolen tickets were resold on StubHub, generating over $635,000 in profits between June 2022 and July 2023, according to prosecutors.
- Both suspects pleaded not guilty and were released under nonmonetary conditions, with potential sentences of 3 to 15 years if convicted.
