Lee Enterprises, one of the largest U.S. newspaper publishers, confirmed a February 3 cyberattack disrupted its operations, affecting both print and digital platforms.
The attack forced the shutdown of critical systems, including VPN access and subscriber services, impacting 77 daily newspapers and 350 weekly publications across 26 states.
Some newspapers experienced delays, reduced print editions, or canceled publications, while others provided free online access to affected content.
The company has notified law enforcement and is investigating the incident, but has not disclosed whether sensitive information was accessed or stolen.
This marks the second cyberattack on Lee Enterprises in five years, following a 2020 breach linked to Iranian hackers spreading disinformation.
