Overview

  • CVS announced in its annual report and SEC filings that it will shutter 271 retail pharmacy locations this year as part of an enterprise-wide restructuring initiative.
  • Closure targets were selected based on population shifts, consumer buying patterns, store and pharmacy density, pharmacy access and community health needs, according to the company.
  • Although CVS has not released a full list of closures, The Krazy Coupon Lady identified 34 locations across 17 states that have already closed or are scheduled to close in 2025.
  • In tandem with store exits, CVS plans to open nearly 30 new smaller-format pharmacies this year, including inside several Target stores.
  • CVS projects that 85% of Americans will remain within 10 miles of a CVS Pharmacy and notes that competitors Walgreens and Rite Aid are pursuing similar consolidation efforts.
