Cutzamala Reservoir System Surges to 92.5% as Rains Lift Mexico City’s Key Supply

Officials project near-full levels by season’s end, opening the door to a possible increase in pumping to the Valley of Mexico.

Overview

  • Conagua reports the system at 92.5% of capacity, or about 723.97 million cubic meters, with Valle de Bravo at 92.7%, Villa Victoria at 94.1% and El Bosque near 91% as of October 5.
  • OCAVM forecasts storage could reach 96–98% by the close of the rainy season, equal to roughly 751–766 million cubic meters if wet conditions hold.
  • OCAVM, Segiagua and CAEM are evaluating a higher transfer to the Valley of Mexico after a reported 10.877 m3/s was delivered last week, split 6.141 to Mexico City and 4.736 to the State of Mexico.
  • The system has added about 347 million cubic meters since May 25 across 16 consecutive weeks of gains, marking the highest early‑October level in seven years and a nine‑year high at Valle de Bravo for this point in the season.
  • Intense precipitation that refilled the reservoirs has also produced localized flooding in parts of the Valley of Mexico, which authorities are monitoring as inflows continue.
