Overview

  • An old wall and a platform shed gave way around 3:45 p.m. at Cuttack railway station, sending debris onto Platforms 1 and 2 and the tracks during phased redevelopment work.
  • East Coast Railway said emergency teams moved in to clear debris and assess damage, and one person with minor injuries was taken to hospital.
  • Train movement was disrupted for several hours, with services on the affected line restored the same evening as a Bhubaneswar–Balasore MEMU passed at about 7:20 p.m.
  • GRP, RPF, Fire Service and medical teams responded on site, and officials said the collapsed structure was very old and in the process of being dismantled.
  • Eyewitnesses reported the collapse occurred minutes after a Vande Bharat train passed, and officials cited heavy rain and the size of the structure as possible factors under assessment.
