Overview

• On August 5, Pune Customs’ Air Intelligence Unit intercepted Atul Sushil Hiwale arriving from Bangkok and seized 6.119 kg of hydroponic cannabis valued at Rs 6.12 crore.
• During the night of August 5–6, Mumbai Customs officers at CSMIA recovered 14.548 kg of hydroponic weed from a Bangkok flight passenger, estimated at Rs 14.5 crore.
• Customs units relied on spot profiling and behavioural indicators to target passengers on Southeast Asia routes.
• Both accused have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and remanded to judicial custody.
• Agencies are now probing financial channels, handlers and wider transnational networks behind the recurring Bangkok–India smuggling corridor.
