Cursor Launches Origin, an Editor‑Embedded AI‑First Code Hosting Platform

This early beta could reshape developer workflows by letting embedded AI agents inspect and change code from inside the editor.

Overview

  • Cursor opened Origin as an early beta for paid users, adding a Codebase panel inside its editor that hosts repositories, stacked pull requests and AI agents in one place.
  • Origin lets AI agents read code, answer questions, modify files, create branches and push changes directly from the editor without forcing users to leave their development environment.
  • The product can sync bidirectionally with existing GitHub repositories so GitHub remains the source of truth and changes in Origin appear in both platforms in real time.
  • Cursor shipped initial ecosystem links for previews and continuous integration with services such as Vercel, Depot and Buildkite and said it supports existing GitHub Actions workflows.
  • The launch follows Cursor’s recent acquisition by SpaceXAI, which Cursor says gives access to a very large GPU cluster to scale model capabilities, and the company is rolling Origin out in stages with enterprise opt-outs.
