Cup Noodles Switches to Microwavable, Eco-Friendly Paper Packaging in 2024

New Microwave-Safe Cups Comprising 40% Recycled Fiber Set to Reduce Cooking Time and Achieve Carbon Neutrality Goals.

  • The popular instant noodle brand Cup Noodles, owned by Nissin, has redesigned its packaging to be microwave-friendly, allowing for more convenient preparation. This change marks the first major shift in Cup Noodles' packaging in 50 years.
  • The new microwave-safe packaging, set to roll out in 2024, is made from 40% recycled fiber and wraps with 100% recycled paper. This move will remove the brand's reliance on plastic entirely.
  • The product previously required consumers to heat the water separately before adding it to the noodles in a styrofoam cup. With the new design, consumers can fill the cup with tap water and heat it in the microwave for just 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
  • Even though the packaging is changing, Nissin confirmed that the recipe for the noodles and the seasoning will remain the same. All flavors of Cup Noodles will feature the new packaging design.
  • The change in packaging material is a part of Nissin's larger sustainability goals. The company is aiming to minimize CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
