Cumbria Councils Schedule Short Road Closures for Utility Work

Councils say the closures will let essential utility work proceed with signed vehicle diversions and highways hotlines to limit disruption.

Overview

  • Cumberland Council has arranged temporary closures on the U2121 and U2128 at Branthwaite near Caldbeck, with the U2121 closed for about 500 metres to allow utility crews to work.
  • Westmorland and Furness Council will close a 20-metre section of Broadway in Barrow east of the Westway junction to permit essential utility repairs and prevent vehicles using that stretch.
  • Drivers will be routed via clearly signposted diversions, including a specific diversion for Broadway using Westway, the A5087 Roose Road, Gateway and the open section of Broadway.
  • Pedestrians and cyclists who dismount will still be allowed to pass through the closed sections, and councils say the measures are time-limited to reduce local disruption.
  • Residents can get updates from highways hotlines and must quote reference TTROC/18847 for the Caldbeck works and TTROW/19103 for the Barrow closure when they call.
