Cumberland Council Schedules Two Short C2049 Closures for Utility Works This Month

Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain in place with signed diversions guiding vehicles.

Overview

  • The C2049 at Hesket Newmarket will close from January 8 for an expected seven days, with works running 7am to 7pm each day on a 170‑metre stretch from the junction with the C2055.
  • The C2049 at Thethwaite near Raughton Head is set to close on January 21 from 8am to 6pm, affecting about 60 metres from the U1140 at Field Head Farm.
  • The legal orders permit each closure to remain in force for up to 18 months as a contingency but will only apply while the required traffic signs are displayed.
  • During the Hesket Newmarket works, vehicles will be diverted via the unrestricted sections of the C2049, the U3008, Salter Lonning, the C2045, and the C055.
  • For the Thethwaite closure, a signed diversion will route traffic via the remaining open sections of the C2049 and the U1140, with enquiries citing TTROC/16692 and TTROC/16761 via the Highways Hotline at 0300 373 3736.
