Culture Ministry Transfers Fallen Calderón Statue to Warehouse for Restoration

  • On July 25 a rain-soaked tree toppled the more than two-meter bronze statue of ex-president Felipe Calderón along the Calzada de los Presidentes, fracturing its right leg and base.
  • Agroasemex inspected the damaged sculpture on July 25 and confirmed its insurance coverage before approving its relocation.
  • The Secretaría de Cultura’s Materials Resources Department has cleaned, packaged and moved the statue to a secure warehouse at the Los Pinos Cultural Complex.
  • Between July 31 and August 4 an insurer-appointed bronze specialist will assess structural damages and set a restoration timeline.
  • Los Pinos authorities are conducting a tree census and planning targeted pruning to strengthen the cultural forest’s resilience.
