Culiacán General Hospital Opens Operating Renal Transplant Unit Under IMSS-Bienestar

The IMSS-Bienestar-run center aims to cut travel and wait times by building full transplant capacity in Culiacán.

Overview

  • Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and IMSS-Bienestar director Alejandro Svarch Pérez formally inaugurated the unit during a live link to President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning briefing.
  • The center is already active, with six kidney transplants completed since December.
  • It is staffed by 18 transplant surgeons and includes two dedicated operating rooms.
  • Four isolation recovery areas and a histocompatibility lab support safe surgery and precise donor–recipient matching.
  • Officials say the site will extend free high-specialty care and expand capacity for kidney, liver, lung and cornea transplants, building on about 162 kidney transplants statewide under the current administration.
