Overview
- A federal judge linked Alejandro Gilmare Mendoza, known as “El Choko,” to process on Sept. 17 for organized crime with kidnapping, and he remains held at the Altiplano prison with a five‑month complementary investigation underway.
- Authorities describe Mendoza as leader of La Chokiza and accuse the group of extortion, drug trafficking, homicides and weapons offenses, following an SSPC–FEMDO operation that led to his Sept. 10 arrest in Ecatepec.
- Cuevas acknowledged knowing Mendoza, said they met on March 1 at a Tlatelolco concert and saw each other fewer than 10 times, and she denied any knowledge of alleged criminal activity.
- In a Sept. 18 press conference, Cuevas showed photos, videos and documents to back her version and said she is evaluating legal action against journalist Carlos “C4” Jiménez for alleged defamation.
- Cuevas said her company, Sandra Cuevas Diamond Group, is under review by Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit, and she rejected as false her inclusion on a “Narcopolíticos” list.
