CubsKyle Tucker Seeks Outside Calf Treatment in Tampa as Rehab Stalls

The trip reflects a shift to new therapy following a rehab plateau before the postseason.

Overview

  • Tucker left the team Wednesday with a Cubs medical staffer to work in Tampa with Optimal Performance & Physical Therapies and physical therapist Jeremy Maddox.
  • Manager Craig Counsell said Tucker’s left calf has not responded to recent treatment and described the progress as having plateaued.
  • Counsell noted the plan was Tucker’s idea and that the club is aligned with pursuing a different approach given prior success with the same group in 2024.
  • Tucker last played on Sept. 2 and was placed on the injured list retroactive to Sept. 6, leaving limited time for game reps before the regular season ends Sept. 28.
  • The Cubs clinched a playoff berth on Wednesday, and Counsell is hopeful Tucker can rejoin the team for the Sept. 23 homestand to prepare for the postseason.
