Overview

  • Owen Caissie was recalled from Triple-A Iowa and officially added to the Cubs’ 26-man roster Thursday, filling the spot opened by catcher Miguel Amaya’s placement on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain.
  • The 23-year-old prospect made his debut in Toronto as the designated hitter batting fifth after a same-day flight from Des Moines and finished 0-for-4 with a first-pitch line drive robbed by Davis Schneider.
  • Caissie earned the call-up on the strength of a .289 average, .955 OPS and 22 home runs in 93 Triple-A games, and the Cubs kept him at the trade deadline as part of their long-term plan.
  • Manager Craig Counsell and president Jed Hoyer indicated Caissie will see limited, situational at-bats as the club balances player development with the makeup of its active roster.
  • Chicago holds a National League wild-card spot but trails the Brewers in the Central, looking to Caissie for a potential spark during late-season lineup struggles.
