Overview
- Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Monday that Murray will be activated when MLB rosters expand from 26 to 28 players, making him eligible to appear for Chicago starting Tuesday.
- The team brought Murray to Wrigley a day early so he could acclimate and take part in batting practice before his formal roster selection.
- Murray earned the call after a 2026 Triple-A season in which he slashed .294/.395/.500 with 16 home runs, 69 walks and starts at first base, third base, designated hitter and left field.
- Chicago can select his contract without a corresponding 40-man move because an open spot exists on the club’s 40-man roster.
- Drafted in the 15th round in 2021 out of Florida Atlantic, Murray has played in the Futures Game and the World Baseball Classic and would become the 10th Major Leaguer born in the Bahamas and the second in Cubs history if he debuts.
