Overview

  • Police say barriers at the Banff Trail LRT station failed to lower as the northbound train entered the platform on April 17.
  • Investigators determined that the bells warning riders of the train’s approach were not functioning at the time of the collision.
  • The boy was crossing in a marked crosswalk when he was struck and suffered a broken leg before being taken to Alberta Children’s Hospital in stable condition.
  • The City of Calgary and Calgary Transit reviewed the operation of the station’s pedestrian crossing arms during their inquiry.
  • Ferdinands, 60, who was initially questioned and released, is scheduled to appear in Calgary court on September 3, 2025.
