CTA to Halt Loop Elevated 'L' Service This Weekend for Junction Repairs

Crews will work on the Loop and Lake interlocking with regular elevated service scheduled to resume at 4 a.m. Monday, October 26.

Overview

  • The CTA will stop all elevated Loop service from 4 a.m. Saturday, October 24 through 4 a.m. Monday, October 26 to allow work at the Loop and Lake junction, the system’s largest elevated rail interlocking.
  • Brown, Pink, Green and Orange lines will run in split segments instead of through the Loop, with trains terminating at Merchandise Mart, Racine, Clinton and Roosevelt as appropriate.
  • Shuttle buses will link key stations—Merchandise Mart to Harold Washington Library, Clinton to Roosevelt and Roosevelt to the Loop corridor—and riders can transfer to Red or Blue Line trains at Belmont, Fullerton, Roosevelt and Racine to reach downtown.
  • The CTA is deploying signage, customer alerts and platform announcements and advises riders to allow extra travel time and plan alternative routes for weekend trips.
  • This short shutdown is part of a staged, multi-year downtown repair program that has already changed Green and Pink Line patterns during the Lake Street Bridge project and will require further planned outages through the bridge reconstruction timeline.
