CTA to Close Three Loop Elevated Stations for Two Weekends

The work enables the State/Lake station rebuild, reroutes Loop trains onto side branches, closing State Street to traffic.

Overview

  • The CTA announced that Washington/Wabash, Adams/Wabash and the elevated Clark/Lake stop will be closed for two consecutive weekends, scheduled for July 18–20 and July 25–27.
  • Each weekend’s work will begin around 2 a.m. Saturday and end by 5 a.m. Monday with Green, Brown and Orange trains shifted to the Wells and Van Buren side branches.
  • The Blue Line will continue to serve Clark/Lake using the Dearborn Street subway so subway access to the station remains available during the closures.
  • State Street from Randolph to Wacker will be closed to all traffic from midnight Friday to 5 a.m. Monday during the affected weekends, and riders are advised to allow extra travel time.
  • The temporary weekend phases are part of the larger State/Lake reconstruction program that closed the station earlier this year for a multi‑year rebuild and will affect downtown travel patterns while work continues.
