Overview
- City officials set a Jan. 5 shutdown to demolish and reconstruct the 1895 State/Lake elevated station, with reopening targeted for 2029.
- Brown, Green, Orange, Pink and Purple Line Express trains will bypass the station throughout construction.
- Riders are directed to Washington/Wabash and Clark/Lake, while the Lake Red Line subway stop remains open.
- Preparatory work begins Dec. 8 with intermittent off-peak closures on eastbound Lake Street between State and Wabash.
- Starting Jan. 5, Lake Street will be limited to local traffic between Dearborn and Wabash, southbound State Street will be restricted from Wacker to Washington, northbound State will have all lanes open, and sidewalks will remain accessible.
