CSS Officer Says Harassment Drove Shastri Bhawan Fall as Police Open Inquest

The CSS Forum has urged ministerial intervention following his account.

Overview

  • Deepak Khoda, 33, a section officer in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, survived a seventh-floor fall at Shastri Bhawan and is being treated at RML Hospital after injuring his arm.
  • In a complaint filed on October 1, Khoda alleged prolonged humiliation and pressure from senior officials, including the additional secretary and deputy secretary, and asked police to initiate action.
  • Delhi Police initially said he slipped while evading a monkey based on his medico-legal certificate, but the New Delhi DCP later said investigators are probing his new statement alleging harassment.
  • Police have begun inquest proceedings, Khoda’s father has submitted a complaint, and an FIR had not been registered as of Thursday, according to The Hindu.
  • The Central Secretariat Service Forum has written to Union ministers Virendra Kumar and Jitendra Singh seeking a free and fair probe, and around 150 CSS officials marched to a police station urging an FIR.
