CSMT Protest Halts Mumbai Locals; Two Killed After Train Hits Walkers Near Sandhurst Road

Staff rallied over an FIR in the June Mumbra crash, prompting an hour-long stoppage.

Overview

  • Central Railway services from CSMT were blocked between 5:50 pm and 6:45 pm as employees stopped motormen and guards from leaving the station during a flash protest.
  • Soon after services restarted, an Ambernath-bound local struck five people walking on the tracks near Sandhurst Road; two were declared dead at JJ Hospital and three were injured.
  • Officials said the victims had alighted from a stalled up slow train during the disruption and started walking; the deceased included 19-year-old Helly Mohamaya and an unidentified man, with two others later taking discharge against medical advice.
  • The protest opposed a Thane GRP FIR naming assistant divisional engineer Vishal Dolas and senior section engineer Samar Yadav under BNS sections including 105 and 125, citing VJTI findings of lapses such as an unwelded, misaligned rail, washed-out ballast and an incorrect speed order in the June 9 Mumbra case.
  • In a separate incident a day earlier, an empty monorail coach derailed during signalling trials at Wadala depot, with three staffers injured as MMMOCL and contractors faced scrutiny over CBTC systems and equipment.
