Cruise Passenger Sues Florida Sheriff for Mistaken Identity Arrest

Jennifer Heath Box was wrongfully detained for three days after her photo was mistakenly attached to a warrant during a holiday cruise.

Jennifer Heath Box, 50, was arrested on Christmas Eve 2022 after disembarking from a Royal Caribbean cruise in Fort Lauderdale.
The arrest was based on a warrant for a different woman, Jennifer del Carmin Heath, who was 23 years younger and had different physical characteristics.
Despite pointing out multiple discrepancies, Box was detained for three days, subjected to a body cavity search, and endured harsh jail conditions.
Box and her attorney are suing the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for failing to recognize the obvious errors and for the humiliating treatment she received.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office claims the deputies followed proper protocols and blames the mistake on Harris County, Texas, which issued the erroneous warrant.
