Overview

  • The 17-year-old was ordered to remain detained after a brief first appearance in Montreal youth court.
  • Federal prosecutor Mark Cigana filed notice to seek an adult sentence, citing risks of non‑appearance, potential reoffending and public confidence concerns.
  • The teen faces three counts that include facilitating a terrorist activity, with adult maximums of up to 14 years on one charge and 10 years on the others.
  • RCMP allege he pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, posted threats online and intended to obtain long guns such as AK‑47s to carry out at least one attack.
  • The INSET-led probe began in April, involved nearly 40 officers with an emergency response team, and culminated in a Wednesday arrest without incident at a Côte‑des‑Neiges apartment; police say the public was never in danger.
