Overview
- The Crown Prince and Crown Princess attended the 48th National Tree-Nurturing Festival ceremony on Oct. 5 at Sekisui Heim Super Arena in Rifu, Miyagi.
- In his address, Akishino called efforts to rebuild coastal disaster-prevention forests damaged in 2011 “meaningful for the future.”
- He said maintaining irreplaceable, rich forests and handing them to the next generation is an important duty.
- He expressed a wish that lessons from the Great East Japan Earthquake be widely transmitted and that support for protecting forests grow.
- After the ceremony, the couple visited the prefectural Forestry Technology General Center in Ōhira Village for a panel briefing on restoration progress.
