Overview

• The fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. in a second-floor unit of a four-story building on Eastern Parkway near Troy Avenue in Brooklyn.
• The victims, ages 24 and 26, suffered smoke inhalation and were rushed to Kings County Hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.
• A 55-year-old woman was hospitalized in stable condition at Staten Island University Hospital South, another resident was treated at Interfaith for a minor injury, and a fifth person declined care.
• Roughly a dozen FDNY units with about 60 responders arrived as crews made an initial push without a charged hose after being told two people were trapped, according to a firefighter at the scene.
• The cause remains undetermined as FDNY fire marshals continue their investigation.
