Overview

  • Nearly 1.1 lakh residents from Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Poonch have been evacuated to safer areas due to intensified shelling by the Pakistan Army.
  • At least one civilian has been killed and over 20 injured as shelling continues to target villages and towns near the Line of Control.
  • More than 50 civilian structures in Uri and dozens of other buildings across affected districts have been damaged in what locals describe as the worst shelling in decades.
  • Temporary relief camps have been set up by district administrations to provide displaced families with shelter and basic amenities, with plans for permanent bunkers underway.
  • The escalation follows India’s Operation Sindoor earlier this week, which broke the 2021 ceasefire and triggered retaliatory shelling from Pakistan.
